REFLECTING, EDITING AND PLANNING FOR 2021

As the end of 2020 approaches (phew!) and we start thinking of the New Year, I'm reflecting on how I can continue to edit life and plan for 2021. I can honestly say, with all of the challenges and pivoting this year, it's been hard to stick to a routine or plan - and that's ok. But like many of you, I've learned a lot about myself this year and these are some of the things I hope to carry into 2021. Hopefully some of these resonate with you too:

ROUTINES - Have one but be flexible. A morning/evening routine is great but if it doesn't happen, be ok with it. Sometimes I'm in a funk because my 3 year old woke up earlier and obviously that helps no one. Instead I'm learning to let it go and find time during the day to give myself that space or try again the next day. Routines change as life changes so practicing some flexibility is good for all of us but at the same time we have to get that me time in.

BOUNDARIES - Speaking up when I'm feeling overwhelmed because really I can't handle it all. Sometimes that means unplugging and saying I can't be on Zoom for more than XX hours, respond to emails as quickly as I used to and not working on my "days off." I need to set boundaries and be consistent, my sanity literally depends on it.

SCHEDULE LESS - We are all missing our loved ones right now but I plan on making sure I'm not going to every event under the sun whether it's virtual or in person (when the time comes). I will always make time for the most important moments and can't wait to reunite with so many but something else in my schedule will have to take a backseat. I want to make sure the time spent is quality time and worrying about what I have to do next and not being present isn't quality.

SIMPLICITY - In spending that is. I've said many times that this year was a spending year for me. I think it's how I dealt with things and it's mostly been household items and toys for my daughter. While we still don't have a ton of things, I really dislike managing it all, seeing my credit card bills and just feeling icky about it. So I'm hoping to keep life simpler next year and consume less stuff. I'm going to take my own advice from and create some better habits.

FEEL GOOD - All the time and money I've been dumping into "stuff" I'm putting towards my wellness and personal healing. Conscious eating, more exercise and taking better care of myself overall cause it's been a struggle and this birthday hit me hard with the almost midlife crisis.

MORE AND LESS LISTS - I feel like my values, focus and priorities have been a bit scattered in the last few months so I want to continue making more and less lists every so often as a quick check-in with myself.

DO WHAT I ENJOY - This is probably obvious but I've realized that some things just don't work well for me. For example, trying to use a Passion Planner this year became a chore. I love all the awesome and creative ways that people plan their lives with it but for me, I need something quick and simple. So for 2021 I'm using a paper monthly planner/notebook and and planner stickers (see below for my digital plans). Also - I'm also guilty of reading entire books even if I wasn't into from the start hoping it would click for me. Needless to say I'm not doing that anymore.

PLAN BETTER - Truth be told my planning isn't the best. I plan my days but as far as projects, overall goals for the year, quarter, etc. - definitely not the best. I mainly use Google Workspace and Trello but between working full time, moonlighting here on Well Edited and having my daughter home most of the time, I can't always geek out on the latest efficiency tools. So...I've been experimenting with Milanote and stumbled upon an awesome template from Om & The City using Notion so I'm going with that and hoping for the best. Will definitely do an update post on that!
