I had a whole plan to post about why Well Edited has been on hold and what direction I'm going in next. But, as always the holidays snuck up on us and after a playdate conversation yesterday, I thought it would be a great time to dive back in.
At the playdate, Quinn's friend's mom asked me how I felt about gifts given that I try to manage the amount of clutter in our home. She mentioned that her mom wanted to buy them a zoo membership but with three kids (all five and under), it's hard to plan and she likes that her kids have gifts to open. After pausing for a minute, I told her there is nothing wrong with wanting physical gifts and to share a mindfully curated wishlist with others, especially for those who love giving physical gifts.
So what is a mindfully curated wishlist?
First let me say, after a year full of changes, I realized I needed accountability just as much as anyone else. So I'm sharing the items on Quinn's wishlist and what my thought process was for adding these items.
Clothes and shoes - Since I don't purchase a lot of clothes or shoes for her throughout the year, I save those items for the holidays, birthdays, etc. Pact is my go-to for a simple selection of basics, so I added a set of pajama's, and this cute jumpsuit. I also thought of other places where there were gaps in her necessities and added a pair of Vans (because we know how quickly five-year-olds ruin their shoes), and these great Bombas Gripper Slippers. I love these so much that I plan on getting them for kids on our list.
Books - I've also cut back on purchasing books since Quinn got her first library card but I do like rotating in some new ones to her shelf so I added Rebel Girls Awesome Entrepreneurs and Sofia Martinez, My Family Adventure.
Outdoor items - As a family, we have been struggling to get outdoors since our move. We rented a Woom 2 awhile back and about a month ago, Quinn got on and was rolling in fifteen minutes. We plan to return the rental and purchase her a bike so I added a helmet,a water bottle for school and a CamelBak since we recently started a hiking group with a few other families.
Fun items - Last, I added a little fun like this watch she's been asking for, an air fort for rainy day fun at home, Disney gift cards for our upcoming trip and this karaoke machine (still not sure about this one).
There you have it, her mindfully curated wishlist and hopefully some ideas for yours. Is it the most minimal list? No, definitely not. Does it have any experiences at all? No, not this year. However, it was mindfully thought of, feels balanced for our family and gives those who want to give her a gift options to choose from. So that's a win-win in my book!
